How to move WhatsApp to new phone without losing chat and contacts
WhatsApp is a free multi-platform messaging program that allows users to make video and phone conversations, send text messages, share their location, and more all over the world using only a Wi-Fi connection. This program is appealing since it works on a variety of phone and computer operating systems, allowing you to resume your chat whenever and anywhere you like. It can also make one-on-one or group calls using Wi-Fi and cellular data, minimizing the need for costly calling expenses. Move Whatsapp Without Losing Chat and Contacts
Your old messages do not instantly migrate across if you get a new phone and just login in to your WhatsApp account on it. This guide will show you how to move WhatsApp conversations to a new smartphone so you can continue where you left off.
How can I transfer a WhatsApp (WA) account to a new phone without losing all of my messages and contacts?
#1 Manually backing up chats and restoring them
If you haven't yet received the Google Drive WhatsApp upgrade or prefer to do things the old-fashioned way, creating a backup and transferring information to your new phone is still rather simple. Simply follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp's Settings menu, select Chats and Calls, and then select Chat backup.
- If both your old and new Android phones rely on an external SD card for storage, just back up to the SD card, then remove it from your old phone and insert it into your new one. Restore WhatsApp from your SD card to your new phone's newly installed WhatsApp.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC via USB cable for phones that store to internal memory, such as most newer smartphones, and navigate to the folder WhatsApp / Database on the device's internal memory.
- All backup files are saved with a date in this folder. Copy the file with the most recent creation date (it will be named differently than the automatic backups made) to a convenient spot on your PC (such as your desktop).
- Install WhatsApp on your new phone, but don't use it!
- Connect your new gadget to your computer with a USB cable. Because you've already installed WhatsApp on your new phone, the WhatsApp / Databases folder should now be present. If you don't have a Databases folder in your WhatsApp folder, you can make one manually.
- In this folder, paste the backup file for your WhatsApp conversation.
- Now, on your new phone, open WhatsApp and verify your phone number. You should now receive an alert that a message backup has been discovered. All you have to do now is tap Restore. All of your messages should have displayed on your new device after a few seconds.
#2 Google Drive backup and restore
Automatic Google Drive backups are now included in newer versions of WhatsApp, making moving your WhatsApp chat history across phones much easier than before.
- Simply navigate to Settings > Chats > Chat backup by tapping the three dots in the top left corner of the screen.
- You can back up manually or set it up to backup automatically as often as you want.
- When you reinstall WhatsApp, it will prompt you to recover your Google Drive chats and multimedia.
- Instantly, chats and contacts will display in the app, and material will begin downloading in the background.
- This is how we exchange smartphones for reviews, testing, and other purposes.
#3 Transferring WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android
Please note that transferring chats from iOS to Android or vice versa is currently not possible without the use of a dubious third-party program. iPhone owners, on the other hand, may utilize iCloud to download their old texts onto their new iPhone in the same manner that Android users can use Google Drive to save their data.
